Summary:

Positive and inclusive experiences within the health system are key to good health outcomes, particularly for those with complex health needs. Improving health outcomes requires a better understanding of the current experiences that people are having in the health system, and identifying where those experiences could be improved.

This project will examine how patient characteristics are associated with experiences in GP care, and which of these characteristics are the main drivers of those experiences.

This position will require the intern to undertake data analysis, under supervision, using the Patient Experience Survey 2018-19. Analysis will include:

  • A brief descriptive analysis of relevant patient characteristics (eg. age, sex, chronic conditions, health status) and outcome variables
  • Logistic regression analysis of outcome variables on patient characteristics
  • A write up and discussion of the results.

The intern will be required to complete the ABS Data Lab Safe Researcher training prior to beginning their internship. This will be organised by the AIHW in conjunction with the successful candidate and the ABS.

Expected deliverables/outcomes for the AIHW as a result of the intern’s work:

  • A brief introduction to the topic and rationale for the analysis
  • Output of at least one regression analysis of patient characteristics on experiences of GP care
  • A write-up of the results and a brief discussion of the findings

Depending on the outcome of this work, the deliverable may be published or used internally to inform future patient experience work.
