The Australian National University Investment Office is responsible for the management of the $1.3b Long Term Investment Pool (LTIP) and a $400m treasury portfolio (GCF). The Long Term Investment Pool is a multi-asset class, multi-currency investment portfolio. The University’s Socially Responsible Investment Policy guides the investment of the portfolio. Preferred Project Skills:

  • The intern candidate will have experience with manipulating large datasets from multiple sources along with demonstrated strong Excel skills.
  • Statistical analysis is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with an ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders is expected.
  • A ‘work test’ will be administered prior to the interview round to assess the applicants’ skill sets.

Project Opportunities/Benefits for the Intern

  • Bloomberg accreditation. Interns are expected to complete 4 of 8 modules on Bloomberg for certification (for their CV). Additionally, if the intern is interested, the opportunity to complete all 8 modules will be made available.
  • The intern’s project report will be the equivalent of an investment analyst-writing sample, valuable for future employment.
  • CV development and interview practice.
  • As this internship addresses environmental issues within the portfolio, the intern will be expected to participate in additional ESG. Bloomberg ESG training is made available to the entire team at regular intervals.

Summary:

The project is an investigation into the carbon off-set credits available in the existing unlisted infrastructure funds of the Long Term Investment Pool (LTIP). This would be a continuation of a project undertaken by the Investment Office three years ago.

Industry standard calculation measures are to be used. Direct contact with the investment managers is expected. A final report will be produced which will be included in the half-yearly update on the University’s SRI Policy provided to the Finance Committee at its July meeting.

The intern will work under the supervision of the Director Investment Office, Investment Analyst ESG and the Investment Analyst Portfolios.
