Location

It is preferable that the position is based in the ASI office, however, flexibility to work remotely once established can be negotiated.  The ASI office is located in the ANU Research School of Physics, 60 Mills Rd, ANU.

Summary:

As an ASI intern, you will be responsible for evaluating the range of ASI surveys that are undertaken which assist ASI to assess the effectiveness of our education programs.

This internship will essentially develop an evaluation framework that analyses the existing surveys and provides recommendations on how ASI could best use the data that the surveys generate. The intern will be looking at the content and questions ASI asks during the survey, assessing that content and comparing it to best practice survey writing and then providing recommendations for improving the ASI surveys.

The particular surveys ASI is interested in being reviewed are:

  • International Science Olympiad Summer School. This is a two week program held in January designed to train potential Olympians in their chosen discipline, ie physics, chemistry, biology or earth science.

  • Alumni surveys, ASI sends a range of surveys to ASI alumni to check in with them and see what they doing and getting a sense of whether ASI programs have helped them in their journey.

  • Junior Science Olympiad (JSO) surveys. The Junior Science Olympiad has three components:
  • The JSO spring school, the junior equivalent of the International Science Olympiad Summer School.
  • The JSO training squad, a self-paced online program aimed at regional and rural students and students from low-socioeconomic areas. It aims to redress inequity in student outcomes due to gender, socioeconomic or geographic disadvantage by providing a legitimate acceleration and extension opportunity for these students.
  • The JSO academy, a rigorous online program for high-achieving science-loving students preparing for the Junior Science Olympiad and looking ahead to the senior Science Olympiads. The Academy aims to assemble a diverse group of students from as wide a variety of schools as possible.
