The Industry Experience Placement (IEP) provides students currently enrolled in a relevant Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) degree, the opportunity to complete a compulsory industry placement component as part of their degree.

The Graduate Industry Placement (GIP) provides those students who are required to complete a compulsory industry placement as part of their post graduate STEM degree, with an opportunity for a work placement of up to 12 months with Defence Science and Technology.

Both programs provide students with the opportunity to gain industry experience in a large research organisation, while also contributing towards their coursework at university. Successful applicants are supervised by DST staff, who work closely with the university to ensure that academic requirements are met. Students will receive regular support payments for the duration of the placement.

Projects may be available at any DST site across Australia. We encourage applicants to apply for projects within their local area, as successful applicants are responsible for their own travel, accommodation and associated costs.

To be eligible for a placement at DST, you must:

  • be enrolled at an Australian tertiary institution undertaking an undergraduate (IEP only) or postgraduate (GIP only) STEM degree;
  • have a degree requirement to undertake a practical placement with industry;
  • be an Australian citizen; and
  • be eligible to obtain a Baseline security clearance.

Applications for the IEP and GIP can be made online at Defence APS Jobs. Applications close at 11:30pm (AEDT) on Monday 7 October 2019. No extensions will be granted and no late applications will be accepted.
