The GIP Program offers high-performing postgraduate (Masters) Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) students the opportunity to satisfy their practical placement requirement.

Applications are open for three weeks, until 19 October 2020 and are completed online on the Defence Careers website. (You must apply directly through the Defence Careers website, not through ANU.)

The IEP Program offers high-performing undergraduate Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) students the opportunity to satisfy a formal requirement of industry experience within a DST Division for up to 12 months. IEP students are supervised by DST staff and use skills gained at university to work on a current Defence project. The projects commence in February 2021 and duration will be determined by each students’ specific industry experience requirement.

The GIP Program offers high-performing postgraduate (Masters) Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) students the opportunity to satisfy their practical placement requirement. GIP students are supervised by DST staff and use skills gained at university to work on a current Defence project. The projects commence in February 2021 and duration will be determined by each students’ specific practical placement requirement.

This year there are up to 100 potential projects spread over most DST sites covering 8 research streams. Successful applicants will be engaged under an Agreement governed by the Defence Science Partnerships Deed for the duration of their placement.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an IEP, the student must:

• be an Australian citizen;

• be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at a tertiary institution;

• have a requirement of the degree to undertake a practical placement with industry; and

• successfully undergo a Defence security clearance.

 

To be eligible for a GIP, the student must:

• be an Australian citizen;

• be enrolled in a Master postgraduate degree at the University for the duration of their project; and

• successfully undergo a Defence security clearance.

Students have also been requested in their application to provide a letter of endorsement from their faculty or university advising proof of eligibility for the IEP or GIP. We have taken this step to ensure ineligible students are not disappointed. This letter of endorsement from the university should include:

  • Confirmation of enrolment
  • Course/Degree title and industry placement subject code
  • Required length of experience component
