A data internship with the Department of Health and Aged Care (DOHAC) provides a unique opportunity to contribute valuable data driven insights to policy, program and regulation activities that improve the health and well-being of all Australians.
Data interns are offered roles in range of interesting and often high-profile projects and work closely with government experts who understand the powerful use of population datasets to improve health outcomes.
As a member of a team, interns have direct exposure to senior leadership and are supported by an immediate supervisor. They learn how to engage with key stakeholders, other Government agencies, and academia.
Interns are exposed to a wide range of issues associated with data management including privacy law, security, metadata and standards, understanding quality, analytics and record keeping/disposal.
A data internship positions students for a future APS career by providing a deep understanding of the importance of building and maintaining data capabilities, and how their data skills can be best applied now and into the future.
