Summary:

Almost a quarter of Australia’s food production never leaves the farm. This project will work with Federal and State government agriculture departments, the agricultural commodity based Rural Research & Development Corporations (RDCs), the National Farmer’s Federation and key growers to better understand and document the nature and root causes of on-farm food loss and waste.

The project will be conducted in two phases; with the first, a scoping exercise to inform a workshop to recommend the focus for phase 2. The student will document the findings in a report as an initial stage towards increasing crop utilisation and reducing the loss and waste of this food.
