All students should follow the degree rules from the year of commencement in the degree, this also applies to commencement in a degree after an internal transfer.

We've recently made updates to undergraduate programs within the College of Science to align with the ANU Undergraduate Curriculum Framework and the ANU Graduate Attributes to take effect from 2025.

Program rules for each year are published in the official online handbook for the ANU: the Programs and Courses catalogue. To check the specific rules for your year of commencement please select the appropriate year from the drop-down menu in PC:

A summary of the key changes to all undergraduate programs within the College of Science to take effect from 2025 is below.

Bachelor of Science (BSC)

Summary of changes from 2025General advice for students
  • The "Science course list" is removed. Courses contributing towards the "minimum 84 units" are in the study requirements of each major or the lists in the BSC (eg, the alpha code lists). The Science course list will continue to be published on the College of Science webpage until the majority of students admitted pre-2025 have either graduated or are no longer in program.
  • A minimum of 2 transdisciplinary problem-solving (TD) tagged courses must be completed. Transdisciplinary courses may also contribute towards meeting any of the other requirements in your degree.
  • 1000-level courses no longer count towards Majors. With the exception of the Psychology (PSYC-MAJ) and the Biological Anthropology (BIAN-MAJ) majors, 1000-level courses, including prerequisites for 2000-3000 level courses, do not count towards the eight courses required for completion of a major. Advice on which courses are needed for each major is available on the post-2025 entry for each major, the First Year Guide or the Majors, minors and specialisations page.
  • Completion of only one major is required. There is no longer a requirement to complete a minor, second major or specialisation. Students may use electives to complete a minor or specialisation if they wish. Minors and Specialisations offered by the College of Science and that maximise the use of ASCAD and ANU electives can be found in the first year course guide, the first-year advice page of the program or by searching the Programs and Courses catalogue.
  • Changes to ANU electives
